Sometimes I love being handsfree to run around the city. I like feeling free from all the useless stuff that I tend to chuck in all my other bottomless handbags. Call it a fanny- pack if you wish but it happens to be a treasured Christmas gift from my husband two years ago. Man does he know my style. I may have hinted at it but ultimately he had to hunt it down and he had the last say. Fortunate for me he has a great eye and totally understands the questions I ask myself with such wishes. Is it timeless for me and is it something that I will use now and for years to come. YES, YES and YES. I adore my Marni bag because it is simple, well designed, limited hardware, a year round piece and love the leather for it’s durability. The caramel color with the contrasting black nylon belt nails it for me. It is easy to wear and goes with everything in my closet. It is functional with enough space for my essentials (iphone, lippie, credit card and keys). It makes me smile whenever I have the opportunity to “strap it on” (wait…that sounds weird 😉
I must have all those special people on my mind for the holidays. It is not always easy to find the perfect little something for those you may have on your list. Luckily, I have Milk House Chocolates on the top of my favorite gems to share. Thornecrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates is nestled away in the small town of Goshen, CT. Why I love this gem is simple: It is owned and operated by the Thorn family who are dedicated to keeping their cows happy, stress free, and loved (don’t we all wish for this!). The cows live in a beautiful barn that is pristine and peaceful with fields to wander. The beautiful setting, the compassion, love and creativity seems to be the perfect recipe for artisan chocolates and fresh milk. The chocolate is made in the same barn and displayed in a sweet little storefront. Over the past few years I have come to know Kimberly Thorn, the baker behind the chocolates. She is sweet, welcoming, humble and appreciative of all those who find their way to her beautiful shop. I am a fan and I love feeling connected to people who share their passion with others. If only I had one milk chocolate truffle to pop into my mouth at this moment!
Exploring what is at your fingertips sometimes takes a bit of motivation. Most often you are not disappointed when you break from your normal routine. The Institute Of Contemporary Art/Boston is located along the waterfront. It showcases visual art exhibits, music, film, video and performances. They also offer fun kid/family activities and First Fridays for an evening of art and music. Yesterday, isostilo wanted to explore and it’s been a while since visiting the ICA. It was a fun outing with an unexpected Winter Harbor Market which included local vendors and yummy pop-ups topped off with holiday caroling from the Boston City Singers Children’s Choir. Meandering about the exhibits and enjoying the beautiful views of the harbor was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Check out their website and see what interests you. By the way, the ICA store is fantastic. A well curated selection of items as one would hope for. I was particularly impressed with the children’s selection. I’m thinking holiday gifts for my nieces and nephews. Enjoy your next outing to wherever you decide to explore.
Do you have a friend that just makes you giddy with excitement? That true gal pal that makes you laugh until tears run down your cheeks? A friend that loves who you are and as crazy as you are? Well I most certainly do! I feel beyond grateful for this beautiful lady to be in my life and for her to consider me her friend. She is honest, brilliantly funny, driven, and comes with a heart of gold. Her humor slays me. In fact I have abs to prove it. That’s a joke. Well maybe if she lived here then this could be achievable. Our agenda is simple: Drink loads of coffee or wine while chatting about food, health, fashion, and places we have been and places we need to go.
We met twelve years ago in Amsterdam and she is one of the true gifts that Amsterdam gave me while living abroad. She is so good for my soul! In fact she is the one who has inspired me to take this leap into blogging. This won’t be the last time you hear about this gal pal or a few more special ladies that are in my life. xo
Stay tuned for a future post on her Viking husband.
Donna and her darling husband, Espen
Karhu’s only US store can be found in my neighborhood, Harvard Square. Can you say jackpot?! The Finnish sneaker brand that offers nothing short of cool kicks in a wide array of colors. The old school color combos have me going places. I love the calm and understated presence of their style. Perhaps a nice alternative to the white sneaker as you head into the cooler seasons of the year. Yup, I do see a pair in my future! Besides being super cool, they are super comfortable.
Fun fact for ya: Where do you think Adidas found their stripes? Know your isostilo style.
Love at first brush with Jeanne 20 years ago! She is the one treat that I can’t live without. She is located on the 4th floor off Newbury Street but you feel miles away in a quiet and peaceful setting. You will fall in love with Jeanne the moment she brings on the magic that leaves you with shiny fingers and glowing toes. Our relationship has grown along the way and I consider Jeanne a dear friend. I hope you get to experience Jeanne Lee when you are in the hood.
